Microsoft Business Intelligence Virtual Office
For the launch of PerformancePoint Server 2007, Microsoft wanted a unique way to communicate the server’s capabilities. Based in part on the success of the previous Virtual Consumer home project, the MS BI Virtual Office was developed as a means to highlight the roles of individuals who benefit from the deployment of PerformancePoint Server 2007. The detailed virtual office environment included meeting rooms, offices, server rooms and cubicles that were rendered by an expert 3D Illustrator. The process of directing the visual style and design artwork was a continuous process of feedback and iteration between myself and the artist with a variety of revisions and adjustments over a 3 week period.
As a final design decision I decided that a more abstract architectural background visually worked better than the earlier rendered cityscapes and the client found this solution to be the ideal blend between realism and illustration which helped close the project design phase. This project has been incorporated as an ongoing resource on the Microsoft.com BI website and has been localized by the Korean BI team as their main web feature.
